I’m Dr. Perkin, the author of Foot Knuckles, Sound Adventure, Diet Protocol for Dementia and Alzheimer’s, and Nourishing Focus for ADHD. As a researcher, speech therapist, and educator with years of experience helping children, adults, and families, I’ve always believed in the power of stories and practical tools to make learning engaging and impactful.
The idea for Foot Knuckles came to me during a session with a curious young patient who struggled to remember anatomy terms. I realized that if I could connect those terms to fun, visual stories, they’d stick—and so, the Foot Knuckles gang was born! The series uses the Loci Memory Strategy to turn complex concepts into vivid adventures, making them both educational and fun for kids.
The Sound Adventure series was inspired by my work with children facing articulation challenges. I wanted to create a playful, accessible way to practice tricky sounds without it feeling like “work.” Through Sally’s whimsical adventures, children gain confidence while improving their speech.
The practical guides, Diet Protocol for Dementia and Alzheimer’s and Nourishing Focus for ADHD, stem from my passion for helping families navigate the challenges of cognitive and developmental health. I’ve seen firsthand how nutrition plays a crucial role in focus, memory, and overall well-being, and these books aim to empower caregivers and parents with actionable strategies.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with children learning their first words, adults rediscovering their voices, and families seeking support for loved ones with cognitive challenges. My mission has always been the same: to make learning accessible, engaging, and practical for everyone.
